Seven work with education in Leeds

Seven have joined forces with Education Leeds to provide mentoring and delivery services to people of school age within the Leeds area.

Education Leeds is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 2001, owned by Leeds city council and in place to provide children of statutory school age with education support services. Seven began working with Education Leeds on two key projects in 2007.

The first programme, Evolve, has involved a number of consultants delivering sessions around employability skills and interview techniques – something we like to think we know something about!

This included performing interview role plays to the group of ten, inviting them to visit our office for their own mock interviews, providing feedback and generally supporting their development around this. Nigel Wood, Project Tutor for the scheme has been really happy with the collaboration.” From my point of view, the support that you have provided this term has been exceptional. The impact working with professional organisations like yours has on our young people is massive. Your contributions to the employability sessions on 'EVOLVE' have enabled me to provide an insight into the workings of a modern professional organisation. Staff have gone beyond mentoring and actively designed, delivered and evaluated workshop sessions which have all been of the highest quality. You have taken real ownership for the contributions you have made and added true value to projects delivered”.

The second initiative, Playing for Success, involves consultants mentoring groups of children to improve their ICT, numeracy and literacy skills. There are Seven representatives at these sessions for four days of the week, and in total 50 children are benefiting from our support.
Again, Nigel added the following comments, “The flexibility and commitment shown covering sessions and the standard of support and encouragement provided has been extremely high. The mentoring team have all commented on how they have been particularly impressed how so many of your staff have got involved and mentored on a really wide range of schemes, both daytime and evening”.

Numerous organisations were contacted to see if there were synergies between Seven and the work they were undertaking. Education Leeds seemed like the most logical choice as they were running the Evolve course; aimed specifically at employability skills for the children.
