7 Tips and Strategies to improve your LinkedIn Profile;
30th May 2023
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional networking platform with over 700 million users worldwide. It’s a powerful tool for building your professional network, your career and leads for your business. However, with so many users, it can be difficult to make yourself stand out and become noticed within the platform. Here’s some top tips to boost your LinkedIn Profile that we find useful for improving your LinkedIn engagement.
1.Profile Picture and Background Image
The first thing people notice when visiting your page is your profile picture and background image. Avoid using selfies or casual photos, use professional and high-quality recent photos, preferably a headshot that represents your personal brand. Additionally, your background image should be relevant to your profession or industry in some way, whilst also being visually appealing.
2.Headlines and Descriptions
Your headlines and descriptions are critical elements of your LinkedIn page. They give people a small snapshot of who you are and what you do. It’s essential to write compelling headlines to attract and entice people to read and learn more about you. Use action verbs, numbers, and questions to make your headlines more interesting and engaging.
3.Show your Experience and Skills
After many years of recruitment here at seven we’ve learnt your experience section is important. It should include your current and past job titles, companies, and job descriptions. Use active verbs to describe your accomplishments and quantify your results wherever possible. Additionally, make sure to add relevant skills to your profile. LinkedIn has a built-in feature that suggests skills based on your profile, but you can also add your own.
4.Engaging with Your Network
LinkedIn is a social network, and like any other social network, it requires engagement. Engage with your network by liking, commenting, and sharing relevant posts. By engaging with your followers and other users, you’ll build relationships, increase your visibility, and attract more followers. Visual content is more engaging and more likely to be shared than text-only content. Therefore, it’s essential to include images, videos, and infographics in your LinkedIn posts. Visuals can help break up long blocks of text and make your posts more eye- catching. Additionally, videos tend to perform better on LinkedIn, so consider creating short videos to promote your brand.
5.Use Hashtags and Tagging
Hashtags are a powerful tool for increasing your reach and engagement on LinkedIn. By using relevant hashtags in your posts, you’ll make your content more discoverable to people searching for those topics. Additionally, you can tag relevant users in your posts to get their attention and increase your chances of being shared or mentioned by them. However, make sure to use hashtags and tags sparingly and only when they’re relevant to your post.
6.Keep Your Profile Up to Date
It’s essential to keep your LinkedIn profile up to date. Update your profile whenever you change jobs, add new skills or certifications, or achieve a significant milestone. Additionally, make sure your contact information is accurate and up to date so that potential employers or clients can reach you. By keeping your profile fresh and current, you’ll signal to your network that you’re actively engaged and committed to your own professional development.
7.Posting at the Right Time
Posting at the right time can significantly increase your reach and engagement. According to research, the best times to post on LinkedIn are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 8am and 2pm. However, you should also experiment with posting at different times to see what works best for you and your individual audience.
LinkedIn is a powerful tool for building your professional network and advancing your career. By following these simple tips, you can improve your LinkedIn page and make a lasting impression on potential employers, clients, and industry peers. With these in mind you’ll be well on your way to LinkedIn success!
