Blue Monday: How to beat the “Saddest Day of the Year”
19th January 2026
It’s that time again…Blue Monday. The third Monday in January, when mornings are dark, the holidays in the sun feel far away, and somehow getting out of bed is harder than usual. The question is: How to beat Blue Monday?!
Why do we feel it?
A few things hit at once:
- Less daylight makes everyone feel sluggish
- Those big New Year resolutions suddenly feel like pressure
- Work piles up after the holidays
Mix it all together, and it’s easy to see why Monday feels… well, blue.
How to beat Blue Monday
You don’t need a huge overhaul. Try these:
- Move a little – A short walk, some stretches, anything that gets you going
- Break stuff down – Big tasks feel less scary if you tackle them in chunks
- Talk to someone – Even a quick chat or coffee break lifts the mood
- Tick off wins – Finishing even a tiny task feels good
- Get some light – Open your blinds, step outside and feel the sun on your face! (well.. maybe more clouds, but you get the point)
Flip the day
Instead of dreading it, think of Blue Monday as a chance to reset. Focus on one small goal, check in with your team, and take little steps to feel a bit better.
Bottom line:
Blue Monday doesn’t have to be miserable. A few simple changes make the day easier—and maybe even productive.
So…How do you beat Blue Monday?!
